E/D/E Group: eLC Logistics Centre 2.5 million packages automatically packed
A proud number was reported by the parent company of EDE International AG in the middle of the year: 2.5 million packages have been packed by the automatic packaging machine, which was put into operation at the beginning of 2021, to date. E/D/E had invested in the state-of-the-art facility to continue processing the growing number of packages efficiently. More than 10,000 packages are sent daily at peak times by the E/D/E Group from the eLC (electronic Logistics Centre), mostly to end customers on behalf of member companies – from Wuppertal to all over Europe – which means a significant relief in daily business for them.
The machine not only helps to optimise performance but also improves the ecological footprint. The shipment is measured three-dimensionally with a laser and automatically packed with a correspondingly tailored carton. This reduces the volume per package by up to 30 percent, which in turn means less freight volume. No additional filling material is used in the automated packaging process. This not only saves costs but also underscores E/D/E Group’s consistent commitment to sustainability.
The planning originally envisaged a maximum load of 3,500 packages for a peak day. Through improvements in material flow, work processes, and technical control, up to 5,000 packages can now be packed effortlessly in one day. Sven Schönfeld, Head of E/D/E Logistics, said: “We were able to achieve this great result through the support and motivation of the employees and the joint exchange of all those involved – an excellent performance.”
